Jiya Lal Mittal DAV Public School, Gurdaspur nestling in the quiet and tranquil atmosphere on the outskirts of the city, guarded by tall ever- green trees, with bewitching garden scenery all around, provides soothing atmosphere for the education of young learners. The school was established on April 05, 2004 by the dynamic and visionary Chairman Shri B.K. Mittal, Secretary DAV CMC, New Delhi, in the memory of his beloved father. School originated from a small building at Achla Bhawan in Gurdaspur and shifted to its lush green sprawling campus located at Kalanaur road, Gurdaspur in 2006. The foundation of the present building was laid by Sh. Vinod Khanna, hon’ble Member Parliament and the then Sr. Vice-President and present General Secretary of DAV CMC New Delhi Sh. R.S. Sharma ji. The school is directly managed by DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi. 
The school started with around 36 students, 3 teachers and a few rooms. Mrs. Renu Trehan joined the school as officiating in-charge on 24th February 2005 and thereafter Mrs. Manjula Sehgal took over the charge of the school as Headmistress on 1st January 2006. Both of them, with their diligence and strenuous efforts took the school to the path of progress.  Mr. Rajiv Bharti joined the school on 1st June 2007 as Headmaster. At that time the strength of the school was 200 students with a staff of 11 teachers.  
In 2008, the lady of great vision and high thinking, Mrs. P.P. Sharma became the Regional Director of the zone and the same year, worthy Prof.  Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen, Principal RR Bawa DAV College Batala, became the manager of the school.  
With the unconditional support, guidance and benign benedictions of DAV CMC and LMC, the school progressed with leaps and bounds and got affiliation for Matriculation in 2010 and for Senior Secondary in 2012.  Since inception, the School has maintained its high standards in everything from academics to sports to other co-curricular activities. The school has been giving remarkable result in the CBSE and DAV Board Examinations since inception. The school has advanced in every aspect- from the smart boards in the classes to Basketball, football, volleyball and badminton court- thus continuing to tread the path of development. The students, staff and management consistently strive to bring out the best in themselves and in the school.
Honourable Dr. (Sh.) Punam Suri ji president DAV CMC, New Delhi visited the school for the very first time on 7th of November 2011 and inspired the students, staff and management of the school to keep striving with positive spirit for achieving their goals. It is indeed, with the guidance and inspiration of the President that the school has achieved success in the field of education.
The School is the embodiment of excellence, maintaining the balance between Vedic Culture and modern education, constantly moving forward in the quest for knowledge. Under the patronage and control of the DAV College Managing Committee New Delhi, the school continues to grow and progress in every respect. The current strength of the school is 1320 students. The school has well educated and dedicated teaching staff of 55 and 25 Non-Teaching staff including administrative staff. The school has 30 vehicles for transportation which includes buses, Wingers and Tata Magics. The result of the school is always 100%.
